About Clinical Biochemistry
Clinical biochemistry is where most of our daily work happens. A sample is barcoded and loaded, and the analyser measures the chemicals your body produces — enzymes, sugars, fats, proteins, electrolytes, hormones and vitamins — then compares each one with the range that is expected for your age and sex.
Automation does the measuring, but every abnormal value is reviewed by a pathologist before the report is released. Repeat runs and dilutions are done in-house, so a doubtful result is confirmed here instead of being sent away.
